Fireproofing is an important safety feature where insulation is often applied to equipment and steel, fireproofing provides resistance so that critical structures and control systems remain operational until the fire is brought under control, as well as ensuring. Previously, asbestos may have been used for fire-proofing, however, has since been replaced by cement-based products. Protection should allow for at least 20 minutes with fire environment up to 1100C.
Fireproofing materials are either cellulosic or hydrocarbon, and prevents the flow of flame or heat which can protect against structural collapse. It needs to be tested to a set of basic standards.
